Jake Dotson

Front Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of work by artist/designer/liberation geometer Jake Dotson. The show includes a grouping of non-Euclidean objects made through novel approaches to body-centered building innovated by Dotson including experimental ceramic musical instruments and structural wire weaving. The title Traveling waves generate standing waves through structural interference is both a deadpan description of the process through which music is produced with the ceramic instruments and a conceptual prompt inviting consideration of an expanded literal and poetic understanding of wave relations. Drawing on his multi-decade, interdisciplinary, and material-based practice, Dotson proposes to demonstrate a reclamation and recognition of craft practices as a vital path for cosmotechnical development that is limited, informed, and illuminated by the moral senses and sensualities of the human body, conceived in the company of more-than-human social groups, and created with the agentic blessings of known and unknown metapersons.
