Jennifer Battaglia: You Look Tired

You Look Tired is Jennifer Battaglia’s ongoing series of photo and video-based work that explore the many social pressures women face as they age.  Battaglia’s prints and videos are visual representations of the pressures that most women know personally. Battaglia draws from her own experiences with directness and humor as she depicts the stories women often tell themselves after being exposed to seemingly innocent observations and comments like “you look tired.”

The staged and arranged nature of Battaglia’s images are reminiscent of product photography, which is a reference to the various forms of retail therapy that is on offer to quell anxieties around beauty and womanhood.
